Abstract

247,559. Dufour, P. F. Feb. 16, 1925, [Convention date]. Cable couplings. - Cables consisting of a core and surrounding strands, e.g. a core of steel and strands of aluminium, are connected by a device having two independent sets of wedging means, one for the core and the other for the external strands. A split tapered sleeve 5 separates the core 6 from the outer strands 3 and grips the latter against the inner tapered surface of the screwed sleeve 4. A split sleeve 8 of galvanized sfeel similarly surrounds the centre wire and grips the other strands within a sleeve 7 of galvanized steel or aluminium. The sleeve 8 may surround the entire core. The sleeves 4 at each end have right and left hand threads so that they are drawn together when the body 1 of the coupling is turned, and abut against the sleeves 7. Alternatively the outside of the sleeve 7 may be coned to fit within an extension of the sleeve 4.
