Abstract

A roof truss support clamp 1 is a temporary device for supporting in place a roof truss being fixed on to a wall plate or other base to form the roof structure of a building. The roof truss support clamp comprises a u-shaped main clamp body 1, which can be attached to a primary roof truss by at least one clamping screw 2. In use, as shown in Figure 3, the roof truss support clamp is attached to a modified swivel scaffold fitting 8, 9 and this is used to attach an length of scaffolding pole to support the truss from an associated main scaffolding structure. The scaffolding pole is attached to the main scaffold structure surrounding the building on to which the roof structure is being fixed using another swivel scaffold fitting. The main clamp body 1 comes in two sizes to accommodate the varying widths of timber used in roof trusses, the larger clamps being fitted with two clamping screws.

Description

DESCRIPTION
WHATITIS
This Roof Truss Support Clamp invention relates to a temporary device for supporting in place a roof truss being mounted, positioned and/or fixed on to a wall plate or other base to form the roof structure on any type of building. It comes in a selection of sizes to accommodate the varying widths of timber used in roof trusses and the larger clamps are fitted with two clamping screws.
The Roof Truss Support Clamp is attached to the primary roof truss by means of its clamping screw. The Roof Truss Support Clamp has attached to it a modified swivel scaffold fitting and this is used to attach an adjustable length alloy pole to accommodate the distance between the roof truss and the main scaffold structure. The other end of the pole is attached to the main scaffold structure surrounding the building on to which the roof structure is being fixed using another standard swivel scaffold fitting.
WHATITDOES
When a roof truss is being put in place on the wall plate of a building it is necessary to hold the truss firmly in place whilst it is being aligned and put in the correct position.
Due to the possibility of movement of the truss by wind and other forces including that of the operator installing the truss, it is essential to be able to hold the truss fimily and safely whilst making small adjustments to the vertical and horizontal position of the truss until it is correctly aligned. The truss can then be clamped firmly in position whilst the second and subsequent trusses are positioned in place and fixed together.
HO WiT WORKS Once the primary roof truss has been lifted in to place and provisionally positioned on the wall plate, item I of Fig. I is placed over one of the diagonal risers of the roof truss and tightened using item 2 to make light contact with the truss and just sufficient to hold it securely in place.
One end of an adjustable length of the correct diameter support tube is then clamped between items 9 & 10 of Fig. land clamped in place by pushing item 11 into the vee of item 10 and fixed securely in place using locking nut II. The other end of the support tube is then firmly attached to a suitable and secure position on the main scaffold structure surrounding the building on to which the truss is being erected using a suitably approved swivel coupler. Once this is complete, the final adjustments to the roof truss can be made at the roof truss end and item I of Fig. I can then be tightly fixed using item 2 of Fig. 1 holding it firmly in place whilst the second and subsequent trusses are attached to it to form the full timber roof structure. Once the completed structure is in place and firmly fixed, the Roof Truss Support Clamp can be removed.
PA I
Assembly of Figure I and attachment to main scaffold structure. The steel body of the Roof Truss -Support Clamp (I) is fitted with I clamping screw for the smaller clamp and 2 clamping screws for the larger clamp. The square section (3) is welded to the top body of the clamp and a circular steel attachment tube (4) is welded to the top of(3). Attachment bolt (5) is inserted in to (4) and attached tightly using washer (6) and lock nut (7). The adjustable length support pole is positioned in clamp (9) and secured in place by bringing the locking screw (11) into the Vee of the mating half (1 0) and fixing firmly in place.
The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows the constituent parts of the Roof Truss Support Clamp Figure 2 shows the attachment of the Roof Truss Support Clamp to the primary roof truss once it had been placed in position on the building wall plate prior to being fixed Figure 3 shows the support tube attached at one end to the Roof Truss Support Clamp and at the other end attached with a standard swivel coupler to the main scaffold structure that surrounds the structure on to which the roof trusses are being installed
