Abstract
246,029. Dock, H. June 29, 1925. Four-stroke engines; cylinders and valve chests, mounting.-A cylindrical valve 58 is rotated within an oscillating sleeve 25 so as to connect longitudinally-spaced inlet and exhaust ports 30 in the sleeve alternately with a third sleeve port 28 leading into the cylinder. The sleeve 25 is split along opposite sides at 26, and the lower half is pressed upwards by springs 40 supporting the engine cylinder, which has vertical guides sliding in channels 11 in the framing. Figs. 8 and 11 show the invention applied to an oscillating-cylinder engine, the upper part of the cylinder constituting the oscillating sleeve and being divided longtudinally at 126 and mounted between bearing-members 116, 113, Fig. 11, the latter sliding upon guides 111 and being pressed upwards by springs 141. The engine piston 142 has downward extensions 144 sliding in grooves 145 in cylinder extensions 146. Bed-plates and frames.-The engine frame comprises side members 6 provided with crankshaft bearings 8 and guide channels 11 and connected at the bottom by spacing-rods 15.
