Abstract

A pair of heat resistant plate grips 3 that are capable of supporting a plate by gripping the rim 5 of a plate. The plate grips allow the plates to be transported without hands of fingers making contact with the plate. Preferably the grips have an integral handle and an integral jaw that receives the rim of a plate, the vertical depth is such that when the handle grip is lifted the grip presses down firmly to engage the plates rim. The grips may be made moulded from a high density heat resistant material such as plastic. The plate grips will also allow the removal of the top plate in a stack.

Description

HEAT RESISTANT GRIPS FOR HOT DINNER PLATE
HANDLING
This invention relates to a matching dual pair of heat resistant p1 ate grips hereinafter referred to as plate grips.
Dinner plates are typically circular in design, and most are of average design in thickness and total circumference, with typically a rim around its upper arid outer edge.
When hot dinners are served on hot dinner plates, this can sometimes cause considerable discomfort to the plate handler, resulting in spillage of the plates contents, or at worse, burns to fingers and hands.
Typical examples and methods of transporting a hot plate to its designated eating area are by means of oven gloves or cloth, which are often overlapping onto the plates contents with resulting messy stains, or unsuitable hygienically.
Another, is the use of a serving tray, but at its final destination, the server must still find a way to place the hot plate from off the tray to the diner, and as the methods above have already exposed, then this too has its problems.
Also, the tray is usually rested onto the table before lifting the plate off, and this can often lead to overall space limitations, especially if other diners are already seated at place settings.
To overcome these and any other hot plate handling problems, the present invention proposes a pair of plate grips, which together are capable of supporting a plate in motion directly to its location for dining purposes.
Each grip is heat resistant to touch, and when in use will keep any fingers or hands away from contact with the hot plate.
Preferably, each plate grip is integral with a handle grip for lifting and carrying the hot plate.
Preferably, each plate grip would have an integral jaw for fitting onto, over and under the plates outer rim.
Preferably, each plate grip is rotatable once fitted and will engage one third of the average plates circumference.
Preferably, when both plate grips are engaged onto the plate, two thirds of the average plates circumference will be locked in for carrying purposes, and thus avoids the plate extracting whilst lifting or in motion.
Preferably, the slot of each jaw would allow enough vertical depth so that when the handle grip is lifted it will press down firmly to engage the plates rim surface.
Preferably, once both plate grips are integral in union with the hot plate, it will have effectively transformed the plate into an all in one carrying tray, transportable to its designated dining place.
Preferably, both plate grips are removable from the hot plate once the plate is in the desired dining position.
Preferably, both plate grips would be manufactured and moulded in durable high density heat resistant plastic or similar substance resistant to heat up to (200 Degrees C). -3-.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 Shows in perspective the dual plate grips in complete union with the plate.
Figure 2 Shows a sectional side view of the dual plate grips and integral jaw into which a portion of plate rim will engage in union.
Figure 3 Shows in perspective the dual plate grips in complete union with the plate after removal from a plate stack.
Figure 4 Shows in perspective the upper view of a plate with both plate grips fully engaged around its upper rim.
Figure 5 Shows in perspective the under view of a plate with both plate grips fully engaged around its under rim.
Referring to the drawings, the heat resistant grips for hot dinner plate handling comprises a matching dual pair of plate grips 3 which have integral handle grips projected outwards from the plates rim 5 sufficiently enough to avoid skin contact with the hot plate.
The plate grips each have an integral hollow slotted plate receptive jaw 6 which has an upper integral portion 1 to fit and enclose over the plates upper rim together with a lower integral portion 2 to fit and enclose over the plates under rim.
Combined with the integral handle grip and integral hollow slotted plate receptive jaw, the plate can be inserted into the jaw at a position on each side of the plate using each plate grip to engage an average two thirds plate rim circumference 4.
In the case of a stack of hot plates 7 the hot plate nearest the top can be lifted clear 8 of the underneath hot plates stack without fingers or hands coming into contact with them.
To detach the dual hot plate grips from the plate, the steps described above are carried out in the reverse sequence.

Claims (6)

  1. Claims 1. A dual pair of heat resistant hot plate grips capable for
attachment over and under a typical hot plates perimeter rim whilst engaging two thirds of a typical plates size.
  2. 2. A dual pair of heat resistant hot plate grips according to claim 1. in which the attachment means are by way of an integral hollow slotted plate receptive jaw with allowance in construction for plate size insertion.
  3. 3. A dual pair of heat resistant hot plate grips according to claim 1. in which each hot plate grip has an integral handle grip for assistance in engaging the plates upper and lower rims of the plate and lifting and cariying the hot plate.
  4. 4. A dual pair of heat resistant hot plate grips according to claim 2. and claim 3. in which the plate is also detachable from both plate grips once the hot plate has been delivered to its designated resting place.
  5. 5. A dual pair of heat resistant hot plate grips according to claim 1. claim 2. and claim 3. in which both plate grips would be manufactured and moulded in durable high density heat resistant plastic or similar substance resistant to heat up to (200 Degrees C).
  6. 6. A dual pair of heat resistant hot plate grips according to claim 1. claim 2. and claim 3. in which each plate grip would be in the form and shape when constructed as only one component part and not a multiplicity of parts to achieve the same result for hot plate or plates handling and thereby reducing the end users costs at the point of purchase.
