Abstract

244,634. Hart, W. C. April 24, 1925. Rollers. - An inking- roller for printing- machines comprises a rotatable body portion mounted on a stationary shaft consisting of two solid end portions joined by a tubular portion. The body portion may be mounted on ball-bearings and means for lubricating the bearings may be provided. In one form, Fig. 1, the shaft comprises solid end portions 2 and a central tubular portion 4 welded or otherwise fixed in borings in the portions 2. The body 6 is internally screwed at end to receive two collars 8, 18. the inner one of which is recessed to receive the ball-bearings 14 and the outer one of which serves to lock the inner one. A recess 20 is formed in the collar 18 to receive.a piece of felt 22 to which oil is supplied through a passage 23 closed by a plug 24 and from which the oil passes to the bearing by a passage 26. Shoulders 16 on the shaft prevent external movement of the roller. In another form, Fig. 3, suitable for rollers of small diameter, the collars 8<a>, 18<a> are screwed into the expanded end of a sleeve 6<b> screwed on to the end of the body 6a. In this construction also the solid ends 2a of the shaft are inserted in the ends of the tubular portion 4b.
