Abstract

243,928. Henley's Telegraph Works Co., Ltd., W. T., and Fisher, H. J. Feb. 4, 1925. Soldering-irons. - In an electric soldering-iron, one or more heating elements of the flat strip type are secured by rivets &c. between one or more pairs of copper strips forming the bit or a number of such heating elements may be placed in separate recesses in a copper bit shaped from the solid. A heating element c in the form of a flat strip is enclosed between two copper strips a, b which form the bit. The copper strips may be welded or riveted together and may be recessed to receive the element or may be provided with a substantially U-shaped copper spacing-piece d at its tip, the parts being secured together by copper rivets e. The rear part of the bit is wound with insulating material g such as mica or asbestos, and is inserted in a metal sheath h to which it is secured by four screws j passing through rigid metal strips k. The rear screws pass through lugs m on a base n which fits in the sheath and is secured to but insulated at o from a boss p into which the stem q of the handle f is fitted. The leads s are secured by contact screws r to the rear end of the heating element.
