Abstract
243,543. Gill, A. F. Dec. 16, 1924. Dirt, removing; closure members, wedge.-In a gate valve in which the outer extremities of the inlet and outlet passages are centred on a common axis for connection to pipes in line, the lowermost portion 10 of the internal surface of the outlet passage 4 is made parallel with the axis A, B of the valve and in unbroken continuation with the lowermost surface of the recess 9 for the gate or valve 7; by this means any solid deposits are readily cleared away by the fluid flow. The. gate is of the usual downwardlytapered form with the under surface inclined so as to cut its way in closing through any solid deposits remaining under it. In the form of valve shown the centres of the valve seat 5 and gate abutment 6 are raised above the axis A, B, and the inclined lower surface of the outlet 4 is cut away in the form of a channel 15. The gate abutment 6 is formed with recesses 17 to reduce friction.
