Abstract

Any wheel of an F2 (or tubular F1) racing sidecar combination is removable without removal of associated brake disc and caliper, allowing brakes to remain applied. All three wheels can be changed at once. Each wheel has mounted on it a triangular plate (Fig 2) on each side. These couple with respective alloy disc carriers (Fig 1) to transfer braking force to the discs when the wheels are mounted. For wheel removal, its axle is removed and the wheel with the plates (Fig 2) is slid perpendicularly to its axis from the disc carrier (Fig 1).

Description

<p>Quick change front For F2 sidecar.</p>
<p>Application number GB0602598.5 This invention relates to a device(s) to enable the fast changing of wheels on F2 sidecars or tubular Fl racing sidecar outfits.</p>
<p>Conventionally mounted brake calipers to the front swing arm or on alloy plates on later outfits means you have to remove the calipers (A) in order to change the wheel. On these later outfits its is necessary to have a set of brake discs (B) mounted on each wheel i.e. one on your dry set of tyres, one on intermediate and one for wet condition wheels.</p>
<p>To overcome these problems this invention enables the discs (figure 6) and calipers to remain in place whilst the wheel is changed, meaning only one set of discs are required.</p>
<p>The wheels can be changed with the brakes applied so it is possible for all three wheels to be changed at the same time. The rear and sidecar wheels require the breaks to be on when being changed. When using conventional braking systems the brakes must be released to change the front wheel.</p>
<p>The quick change system uses two alloy disc carriers (figure 1) that take up the braking forces (figure2) from the triangular plates (figure 3) attached to the wheels. These plates are self contained with wheel bearings (figure 4) and retaining circlips (figure 5). The wheels are modified to accept the triangular plates; two plates per wheel are required. The quick release wheels are self contained with wheel bearings and captive spacers.</p>
<p>To change the wheels -First remove the wheel spindle (figure 7) and turn the wheel so that the open end of the disc carrier is facing the front. Then pull the wheel forward and out of the carrier, slide the chosen wheel into the disc carriers and replace the wheel spindle, tighten the wheel nut and replace the retaining pin.</p>

  1. <p>Claims.</p>
    <p>1. A quick release system for F2 & tubular Fl sidecar racing outfits that enables wheels to be changed without removing discs and calipers.</p>
    <p>2. A system that allows the discs and calpiers to remain in place according to claim one which means you only require one permanent set of discs removing the need for discs on each wheel type.</p>
    <p>3. A quick release wheel changing system according to claim one, which allows all 3 wheels to be changed at the same time as the quick change system uses two alloy disc carriers that take up the braking force.</p>
    <p>4. A system that according to claim three means that the front wheel can be changed without releasing the braking force (i.e. much faster) unlike a conventional system.</p>
