Abstract

A method of placing ferrous metals on the bed of a river, a lake or the sea. When the iron or steel is submerged in water the metal corrodes releasing energy which is important in the synthesis of carbohydrates from dissolved carbon dioxide. This reaction encourages and sustains the growth of plankton which form the basis of the aquatic food chain.
