Abstract

Conical mills.-A cylinder 1, provided with a spirally grooved interior grinding-surface 15 'backed with rubber 14 is resiliently supported on springs 5 in a framework 8 so as to be capable of being rotated through bevel gearing 9, 10 driven from a pulley 11. A shaft 16 is mounted in the cylinder and carries a number of wheels 20 having sector-shaped radially adjustable grinding surfaces 21 backed with a rubber backing 22, each wheel being mounted between springs 25 and carrying telescoping guards 26, 27 to deflect material to be crushed between the co-operating grinding-surfaces. The material is fed in at the top on to a cone 28 and is crushed &c. in its passage through the cylinder, the wheels 20 preferably increasing in diameter downwards along the shaft to render the process gradual. The shaft 16 and wheels 20 may be driven in the opposite direction to the cylinder, or in the same direction but at a different speed, or the wheels 20 may bo held stationary while the cylinder 1 is rotated.
