Abstract

242,919. Napier & Son, Ltd., D., and Wilkinson, G. S. July 10, 1925. Valve gear.-Valves having their axes inclined to the cam shaft are actuated by cams and rockers constructed so that the operative faces of the cams and the pivots of the rockers are parallel to a line at right angles to the axis of the valve which they actuate. Fig. 1 shows four inclined valves B actuated by separate cams D and rockers C<1>, C<2> arranged in this manner. The valves B may be two inlet and two exhaust, and in addition there may be provided two valves B<1> or B<2>, one for inlet and one for exhaust, or both B<1> and B<2> may be used. The valves B<1> are actuated directly by cams D' having operative faces at right angles to the axes of the valve tappets, or their equivalent with which they engage. The valves B<2> are actuated by plain cams D<2> and rockers D mounted on pivots parallel to the cam shaft. Each pair of rockers may be actuated by a single cam, the end of one rocker engaging that of the other rocker, which contacts with the cam.
