Abstract

Angle-measuring instruments.-In a different-screw fine-adjustment for scientific instruments &c., the body to be adjusted and one of the members of the differential screw are so shaped that when they are pressed together they engage to prevent relative rotation between them. The Figures show the application of the invention to the spirit level of a surveying instrument, the level 2 being secured in a metal casing 4 having end caps 5, 6. The cap 6 is pivotally mounted in the support 1 between a screw 8 and spring 7. The cap 5 is forked, and each arm of the fork is formed on its under-side with a V-shaped recess 14 which receives one of the cylindrical bars 15 provided on the head 16 of the axially-movable member 17 of the differential screw comprising also an internally and externally threaded sleeve 18 engaging in the support 1. The head 16 is of such diameter that it fits accurately between the forks 5. Springs 10, 11 press the fork into engagement with the bars 15. The mounting of the cap 6 prevents the occurrence of strain due to changes of temperature.
