Abstract
This invention relates to a method that enables the user to list the MHEG pages in MHEG formatted broadcasting as desired, in electronic visual devices and thus to create favorites lists and then navigate among the pages in these favorites lists; and a visual device that operates according to this method.
Description
FAVORITES LIST
Field of the Invention
This invention relates to a method that enables the user to list the MHEG pages in MHEG formatted broadcasting as desired, in electronic visual devices and thus to create favorites lists and then navigate among the pages in these favorites lists; and a visual device that operates according to this method.
Background of the Invention
The electronic devices known in the art can display the received MHEG data as a table. MIiEG (Multimedia/Hypermedia Information Coding Expert Group) format is the merging of features like images and subtitles, which are separately received from the digital broadcast, by an interface.
Various applications have been developed in relation to compilation and redisplaying of data received in MHEG format in electronic visual devices. One of these applications is described in the Japanese Patent certificate No. JP2000286809. In the inventive method described in the said document, data received in MHEG format is compiled and facilitated to be viewed as a Graphical User Interface (GUI) window. The menu created in this manner can make transition between images.
Another method is described in the Japanese Patent application No. JP2000333043. In this method, images and subtitles received from the MHEG device are matched in the interface by creating a data transmission table and thereby effective communication among the system elements is provided.
However the applications known in the art are not related to creation of a favorites list by the user. In some of them a user interface is used but it is not possible for the user to classify and list a plurality of broadcasted MHEG pages as desired and thereby create favorites lists. The user can not create one or more favorites lists and thereby cannot provide an effective usage.
Summary of the Invention
The objective of this invention is to realize the method that enables creation of the favorites lists containing the MHEG pages that are of interest to and determined by the user, and a visual device which operates according to this method.
Another objective of this invention is to realize a method which enables the user to navigate back and forth without any restrictions among the favorites lists that he/she created; to view on the display the MHEG formatted pages contained in the favorites lists; to make a page selection on the favorites list and display the contents of the selected page; to change or update, by means of a remote control, information that he/she created before; and a visual device which operates according to this method.
Another objective of this invention is to realize a method that, in case of removal or modification of the contents of the pages in the favorites lists, facilitates automatic updating and notification of the user following the updating via text or voice message about the modified information; and a visual device which operates according to this method.
Detailed Description of the Invention
The method for creating favorites lists containing the MHEG pages that are of interest to and determined by the user, and a visual device which operates according to this method, which are realized to fulfill the objective of this invention, are illustrated in the accompanying figures.
Figure 1 is the schematic view of the assembly by which the inventive method is applied.
Figure 2 is the flowchart related to the essential form of the inventive method.
Figure 3 is the flowchart related to another embodiment of the inventive method.
The parts appearing in the figure are numbered separately and the numbers refer to the following: 1. Method 2. Remote control device 3. Visual device 4. Window The method (1) for creating favorites lists containing the MHEG pages that are of interest to and determined by the user, essentially comprises the steps of, - The user, while navigating among the MHEG pages, communicating his/her request of adding a page to the favorites list to the visual device (3) while he/she is on the related page, via a remote control device (2) or another transmitting element (101), - Opening a window (4) on the visual device (3) and inputting the representative name of the page desired to be added in the favorites list (102), - Notification of the user by a warning message if the page desired to be added already exists in the favorites list (103), - Addition of the page desired to the favorites list provided that it does not exist in the favorites list (104).
During application of the inventive method, while the commands can be transmitted to the visual device (3) via a remote control device (2), another method can also be employed for the transmission of the commands.
The visual device (3) used for the application of the inventive method can be a television, set top box or HD TV (High Definition TV), as well as another device which can decode and process digital broadcast.
In the preferred embodiment of the inventive method for creating favorites lists containing the MHEG pages that are of interest to and determined by the user, the user can create favorites lists as he/she prefers among the MHEG pages received from broadcast, via the remote control device (2) and the commands input. Thus by means of this method (1), the classification of the MHEG pages received from the broadcast and creation of the favorites list are enabled, and control of the user is facilitated.
In the method for creating favorites lists containing the M}TEG pages that are of interest to and determined by the user, the user can communicate, preferably via a remote control device, his/her desire to add a page to the favorites list when he/she encounters an MHEG page which attracts his/her attention while navigating in the MHEG formatted broadcasting or which he/she might want to access later.
At this stage, the visual device checks whether that MHEG page already exists in the favorites list, and if the concerned page does not exist in the favorites list, the device saves it in the favorites list. At this point, the visual device may prompt the user with which name the MHEG page should be saved in the favorites list or if the MHEG page already exists in the favorites list, it may notify the user of this fact via a warning message. If the page desired to be added does not exist in the favorites list, the visual device adds it to the favorites list with the specified name.
The favorites list can later be opened and updated by the user or can be modified by renaming or deleting functions.
The user does not have to be viewing a MHEG formatted broadcasting to be able display the favorite pages after listing these pages. This action may well be performed when the user is viewing any broadcast format.
In another embodiment of the invention, after the step of (104), the functions of - Appearance of a menu in the window by which the user can make selections and perform various operations (105), - Detennination of the preferences of the user among the options via the command of the user (106), can also be realized. Consequently, it can be navigated among a plurality of favorites lists and actions can be performed in them.
In another embodiment of the invention, the said menu mentioned in the steps of (105) and (106) can be viewed by the user at any time and actions can be performed on it.
In the visual device, different favorites lists belonging to a plurality of users can be saved. The user can assign a password to his/her list to prevent other users from accessing his/her favorites lists or making modifications on these lists.
The user can create a plurality of favorites lists containing the MHEG pages that are of interest to and determined by the user, and can save these lists by different names.
The user can also create lists of undesired or prohibited pages just like he/she can create favorites lists. By means of this list of prohibited pages, the user can prevent any and all users using the concerned device from viewing these pages or may set viewing to be password dependent. Thus, a control can be exercised on the pages which are not suitable to be viewed by children and teenagers.
By means of the method (1) for creating favorites lists containing the MHEG pages that are of interest to and determined by the user, the user can classify as he/she desires a plurality of MHEG pages received in MHEG format via digital broadcast and can list only the ones of interest to him/her.
In the method (1) for creating favorites lists containing the MHEG pages that are of interest to and determined by the user, the system can automatically detect an MHEG page, selected and added to the favorites list by the user before, which is removed from broadcast, and can remove it from the favorites list and notify the user with a message when the user attempts to display the said page. If the contents of the page are modified, the system automatically updates it.
Each user can input a command identifying himself/herself before starting to use the visual device and thereby activation of the settings andlor the favorites list belonging to the concerned user is facilitated during viewing.
Within the scope of this principle concept, development of various applications of the inventive method is possible, and the invention is essentially according to the claims and can not be limited with the examples described herein.
