Abstract

A stackable watering can with a tapered body 1 that has a top 2 and handle 4 that allows the top of the tapered body to be open thereby allowing another stackable watering can to nest inside it. Preferably the top of the watering can is formed in two pieces 2 that are hinged 3 to the body of the watering can where the two central joining edges 6 have a connecting mechanism such as a tongue and groove. The handle 4 may be split in half longitudinally with each half having one end attached via a hinge to each of the tops. When the tops are closed the handle 4 may be clipped together and secured to the rear of the body 7. The tops may also have a raised edge 8 (Fig.2) to act as a guide to direct rain fall into the body of the watering can. The watering can may have a removable rose sprinkler 5 that may be easily stacked.

Description

Stackable watering can This invention relates to a stackable garden
watering can.
Watering cans are commonly used in gardens and a smaller version used in the house for watering flowers and plants etc. Filled from a tap, hose or rainwater butt they can be used with a rose sprinkler or without.
However, they are cumbersome hollow items, which are bulky, and costly for the manufacturer, wholesaler and retailer to transport, store and display.
There are some jug like smaller tapered indoor watering cans, which can stack, and nest inside each other.
The larger garden watering cans have a partially covered top to retain the water when pouring which allows a pressure to build up to project the water further to reach the desired area. They. also have a handle above and therefore it is not possible to stack and nest inside each other.
To overcome these problems, the present invention proposes a stackable watering can, which has a foldable top cover and handle which enables the tapered watering cans to stack and nest inside each other.
The design also has a feature on the top to catch and allow falling rain to run into the watering can.
The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows a stackable watering can with the foldable top and handles open in stackable form and the rose sprinkler removed, Figure 2 shows a stackable watering can with the top closed, the handle in position and the rose sprinkler attached, Figure 3 shows a stackable watering can rear view.
In figure 1, a tapering watering can body I has left and right tops 2 open along a hinged edge 3 with handles 4 connected and an optional rose sprinkler 5 removed and are in the stackable format.
The two central joining edges 6 of the tops 2 have a connecting mechanism, such as tongue and groove, to secure together when closed. The handles 4 also have a connecting mechanism so that they can be clipped together when closed and they are secured at the rear of the body I by attaching to detail 7.
The tops 2 have a raised rib detail 8 to act as a guide to direct falling rain into the can body 1.
Figure 2 shows a watering can body I with the tops 2 closed, the handle 4 in position and the rose sprinkler 5 attached.
Figure 3 shows the rear view of the watering can body I with the rose sprinkler 5 and the handles 4 in one piece attached to a the body detail 7.
In the illustrated embodiment the handle elements are hingeably attached to tops 2 by a snap detail for example.
This example is shown as injection moulded plastic however, other manufacturing processes could be employed.
