Abstract
A security device for a corner steady of a caravan comprises a movable plate 4 which is selectively secured to a fixed plate 5 to prevent access to the winding nut 7 of the leg steady. The plate is movably mounted on a rod 3 which is secured to the caravan floor 1. The fixed plate 5 is bolted to the rear of the winding nut 7. A padlock is used to secure the two plates together once the leg steady is deployed. When the caravan is travelling, a separate nut and bolt may be used to secure the plates together.
Description
Security of caravan lea steadies and explanation of diagram This invention
is to lock of access to the caravan winding nuts when the leg steadies are down This will then prevent the caravan being towed away It consists of a shaped steel rod being fixed beneath the caravan. Fitting across the winding nut bracket A sliding plate that when in position covers the winding nut A fixed plate bolted to the rear of the winding nut housing Diagran, numbers I to 7 1. Floor of caravan 2. Brackets fixed on all caravans holding winding rod & leg steady fixtures 3. Shaped steel rod fixed beneath caravan floor & holding sliding plate 4. Sliding plate that when in position covers winding nut 5. Fixed security plate bolted to rear of winding nut bracket 6. Brackets to fix steel rod into position 7. Head of winding nut puts leg steadies up or down Action & fixture of equipment I. The winding nut protrudes from its fixture approx. I " 2. The gap between the caravan skirt and this nut is also approx. 1 " 3. The security device is designed to be flexible enough to slide between skirt and nut to deny access to the nut 4. The sliding plate (4) is moved across the rod (3) until the hole lines up with hole on fixed plate (5) 5. A padlock of choice is put through both holes and locked 6. When not in use & travelling a plastic bolt with wing nut can bolt both plates together.
Fixture.
I. A bolt action type bracket is fixed beneath the caravan. (6) If possible this should be bolted through the caravan floor. If due to structure of caravan this is not possible screw into floor useing one way wood screws the type used to fit security locks on windows 2. Plate (5) can be lined up with both flanges sited with winding rod between them.
Hole position marked on rear of winding gear bracket. Holes drilled plate bolted into position
Claims (7)
- Claims 1. My invention especially if used on all leg steadies will greatlydeter the theft of caravans
- 2. The time taken to overcome this device will put off a lot of theft.
- 3. Simple to fit for any D.I.Y. enthusiast
- 4. Adaptable to use on the majority of caravans
- 5. When fitted extremly quick to put into operation
- 6. Padlocks can be of ones own choice
- 7. Once research and study of all caravans and fitments has taken place and been completed it should be possible to produce a standard security product to fit all caravans
