Abstract

241,296. Kirkland, J. W., (Allgemeine Elektricitõts-Ges.). July 19, 1924. Systems depending on static transformers. - The secondary circuit of a three-phase current transformer is opened by means of a switch k and two of the phases are connected in series in order to give a higher voltage. The primary circuit is simultaneously opened by moving a switch h from contacts o to r, two of the primary phases being thereby connected in parallel across the mains u, v. The double voltage obtained across the two secondary phases may be used for striking an arc between an auxiliary electrode a and one of the electrodes m of an electrically-heated fusing or hardening bath. As soon as there is a sufficient quantity of fused salt in the bath, the switch k is closed, and the switch h moved to the contact o, thereby re-establishing three-phase connections.
