Abstract

275,208. British Thomson-Houston Co.,. Ltd., (Assignees of Paul, W. E.). July 28, 1926, [Convention date]. Magnetic blow-outs. -The blow-out coil 16, which is included in circuit with the auxiliary contacts 14, 15 when the switch opens, is surrounded by a winding 22 which is short-circuited bv a contact 24 when the switch is closed and for a short period after the main contact 10 has opened. The winding 22 when short circuited, serves to reduce the impedance of the coil 16 and thereby prevents sparking at the main contact 10. The switch 24 opens before the auxiliary contacts 14, 15 separate and the coil 16 then exerts its full magnetic powers to blow out the arc.
