Abstract

Electrodes: separators; supports for electrodes. -In a zinc-lead storage battery the lead parts, particularly the supports for the active material of the positive electrodes, are made of pure lead instead of an alloy of lead and antimony. The reduced mechanical resistance which results is compensated for by providing the positive electrodes with ebonite &c. frames 2 which may be formed with feet 3 as shown in Fig. 1. Instead of a separate frame for each of the electrodes, the latter together with the separators may be held in comb-like members 6 as shown in Fig. 3. The members 6 may be formed by making slots in the walls of the container, or they may consist of horizontal plates having recesses to receive the electrodes and separators. Fig. 4 shows a further method of supporting the electrodes and separators. The positive electrodes 1 and negative electrodes 4 are separated by ebonite &c. frames 5<1> enclosed between wood separators (not shown). The parts are clamped together by bolts and nuts 7. To prevent short-circuiting the negative electrodes 4 do not reach the upper bolts 7 and the positive electrodes do not reach the lower bolts. Additional bolts may pass through the central portions of the electrodes and separators.
