Abstract

A security door chain reminder contained, apart from remote components, in a wall mountable box, which combines the use of a doorbell switch, a device for detecting a knock at the door either by sound or vibration, an audio speaker, a flashing light and a means to detect whether or not the security chain is engaged. The security door chain reminder is triggered by a caller at the door. The person answering the door is prompted to deploy the security chain by an audible reminder and flashing light. The security door chain reminder would be capable of being silenced by means of a key operated switch.

Automatic Security Door Chain Reminder This invention relates to a
security door chain reminder which incorporates the combined use of a doorbell switch, a device capable of detecting a knock on the door either by sound or vibration, an audio speaker, a flashing light and a means to detect whether or not the security door chain is engaged. Contained, apart from remote components, in a wall
mountable box.
The main problem with security door chains is that, very often, people, especially the elderly, forget to deploy the chain before they open the door, sometimes resulting in them becoming victims of bogus callers.
The object of this invention is to provide an audible and visible reminder to the person answering the door immediately prior to them doing so.
Accordingly this invention starts to work as soon as the doorbell switch is activated or the sound/vibration detector detects a knock at the door. The activation of the doorbell switch or the sound/vibration detector in turn activates the audio speaker and flashing light on the inside of the door. When the person answering the call at the door, approaches the door, the invention would, if it detected that the security chain was not engaged, make an audible sound or play a recorded message and start the light flashing, to prompt the person answering the door to engage the security door chain.

  1. Claims 1 A security door chain reminder comprising a doorbell switch, a
    device capable of detecting a knock at the door either by sound or vibration detector, an audio speaker, a flashing light and a means to detect whether or not the security chain was engaged. Contained, apart from remote components, in a wall mountable box.
  2. 2 A security door chain reminder as claimed in any preceding claim wherein a key switch provides the means to silence the device.
