Abstract

Refractory or ceramic fibres for use in an open flame gas fire are coated with an inorganic oxide pigment. The metal oxides may be calcined at 1150{C or more and subjected to wet ball grinding.

Description

REFRACTORY CERAMIC F1BRE PIGMENTS.
The invention relates to the coloured coatings applied to refractory ceramic fibre components and shapes used within the conventional living flame gas fire. Typical examples would be that of the coals, logs and pebbles etc. Such pigments are know, however their design and technical make up is not purposely designed for such applications. Traditional pigments fade and discolour in a naked flame environment and the application of such pigments is very time consuming and
often un-repeatable.
The key objectives of this invention are to produce a pigment exclusively for the use on refractory ceramic fibre material. With no adverse effects, when being exposed to the conditions of an open flame gas fire.
The refractory ceramic fibre pigments will resist temperatures up to and over 1 2000c with minimum discolouration, have no adverse effects to flame erosion, impingement or acidic environments. Their method of application will be set to the required parameters of the client to achieve fast, consistent and effective production application.
The above stated refractory ceramic fibre pigments will be manufactured from high grade metal oxides and calcined at temperatures in excess of 1 150 Celsius, after which particle size reduction will be carried out by means of wet ball grinding. The product would then be washed or pressed to remove any soluble salts and finally spray dried or tray dried to achieve the final pigmentation.

Claims (6)

Claims.
1. The refractory ceramic fibre pigments will resist temperatures up to and over 1 200OC with minimum discolouration, have no adverse effects to flame erosion, impingement or acidic environments. Their method of application will be set to the required parameters of the client to achieve fast, consistent and effective production application.
2. The refractory ceramic fibre pigments as claimed in Claim 1 shall not chip or be free dusting.
3. The refractory ceramic fibre pigments as claimed in Claim 1 & 2 shall be of a non toxic substance in accordance with C.O.S.H Regulations.
4. The refractory ceramic fibre pigments as claimed in claim 1-3 shall be wholly water based and not of a combustible nature.
5. The refractory ceramic fibre pigments as claimed in claim 1-4 shall be fully intermixable.
6. The refractory ceramic fibre pigments as claimed in claim 1-5 shall be chemically adjustable with reference too pigment penetration into the refractory ceramic fibre article and surface film thickness.
