Abstract

Connecting uppers to insoles and soles. - In a shoe which consists entirely of waterproof material, a waterproof strip 3 of rubber or other impervious material is secured between a welt 5, Fig. 4, and an upper 1 to an insole 2 by a seam 6. The edges held together by the seam are coated with an adhesive impervious to water, preferably rubber dissolved in carbon bisulphide. After the parts are sewn together, all the edges and the surface of the welt are again coated with the adhesive. A filler 7 is added and a sole 4 fixed in position by a double seam 8. The strip 3 is then turned down over the sole and fixed with adhesive or in any other manner. In a modification, Fig. 5, in which a seam passes right through the insole, upper, strip 3, and sole, the parts to be connected are coated with adhesive before being sewn and the strip 3 is turned down over the sole and fastened after the shoe has been stitched.
