Abstract

A fitment is described for a foodstuffs container having a mouth with a surrounding rim that projects radially beyond the walls of the container (10). The fitment comprises an injection moulded plastics ring (12) having a circumferentially continuous cylindrical inner wall (22) for making sealing contact with the radially outer surface of the rim (16). At least one retaining portion (20) projects radially inwards from the ring (12) to engage the underside of the rim (16) and thereby hold the fitment against the mouth of the container (10). The container is sealed by adhering a foil seal (14) to the upper surface of the ring (12) or the rim (16) of the container.
