239,204. Lauenstein & Co., Ges. Aug. 29, 1924, [Convention date]. Packeting by wrapping-up.-Relates to apparatus for wrapping sweets or other soft and irregularly shaped articles in flexible wrappers, such as metal foil. The article 15 is fed vertically upwards on a plunger 14 through apertures 18 in guide plates 16, between which the foil &c. wrapper 17 is disposed. This effects a preliminary folding down of the wrapper on to the sides of the article. The continued rise of the plunger carries the article and wrapper between two pairs of rollers 2, 1 having bristle, sponge rubber, or like resilient surfaces. The pairs of rollers are angularly disposed and are mounted so as to yield against the action of springs during the passage of the article. The rollers are rotated in the opposite direction to the advancing article so as to apply the foil &c. closely to the sides. After having passed the rollers, the downwardly projecting edges of the wrapper are folded in by known means. In a modification, Fig. 5, the rollers 19, 22 have a longitudinal section corresponding to the shape of the article to be wrapped, and are composed of a plurality of resilient discs 20 secured upon shafts which may be yieldingly journaled.
