Abstract
A temperature-sensing control valve comprises a valve housing (2) containing a wax-like substance constrained in the closed position by a compression spring (5). The hot water from the boiler passes into chamber 'a', Once the water reaches the predetermined melting point of the "wax" contained within the wax element causing an increase in volume of item 8, which causes item 6 to move upwards (as shown by arrow 'f') further compressing the spring item 5, against the inner upper surface of item3.This causes the circular end of item 6 to part away from the recess 7 and hot water will pass from chamber 'a' to 'b' and flow outwards via suitable piping to the various draw-off points.
Description
HOT WATER CONTROL VALVE
The invention relates to a " Water Control Valve", to control the output of hot water from a boiler or the like.
By present conventional methods both on 'Domestic' and 'Commercial' systems, hot water is conveyed by low pressure through suitable pipes to one or more 'draw-ofF points, (usually taps, of one kind or another). Before 'hot water' is drawn-off, a certain volume of cool water passes through the draw-off before 'hot water' is present.
T his depends and varies on two main points or factors, a) The distance, which is relative to 'volume' between the draw-off point and the boiler 'output' point.
b) The time dwell, from the first draw-off to the second.
If the time dwell is relatively long, Then the water within the pipe from the boiler to the draw-off has sufficient time to cool.
Also more than one draw-off could take place at the same time, which would further influence the problem.
This constitutes wastage of water and can create substantial cost taken over say an annual period. The present invention by way of the following description and drawing seeks to
overcome this problem; as aforesaid described.
Fig I Shows a cross-sectional view of the 'control valve',shown on centre line of valve.
Item 2 Fig 1 is the main housing or body of the valve, manufactured by casting or other suitable means from a material and size to suit the design criteria. The valve body item 2 has a 'Y' shape form, by virtue of the angled stem 2a whose centre line (p is at 45 to the horizontal centre line 'x-x'.
The stem 2a has an internal thread form at the outer end. Item 3 is a 'seal cap' which has an external thread portion 4, which is compatible with the internal thread in the valve stem 2a.
Item 5 fig 1 is a compression spring manufactured from a specified material and rating.
The valve part item 6 is constrained in position within the recess item 7 by the compression spring item 5, which is pre-loaded as item 3 is screwed into position within the valve stem 2a;of the valve.
Item 8 is a commercially available product known as a "wax element", although there are few manufactures to select from, the particular one shown is of German origin.
This element item sits in position within item 6 and the recess 7 and is in direct contact with water present in chamber 'a'.
Item 2 the main body of the valve has external threads of a specified size items 9 and 10 at the 'outlet' and 'inlet' ends. This enables suitable pipes (not shown) to be attached using conventional methods.
The hot water from the boiler passes into chamber 'a'. Once the water reaches the pre-
determined melting point of the 'wax' contained within the wax element causing an increase in volume of item X, which causes item 6 to move upwards (as shown by arrow f') further compressing the spring item 5, against the inner upper surface of items.
This causes the circular end of item 6 to part, away from the recess 7 and hot water will pass from chamber 'a' to ib' and now outwards via suitable piping to the various draw-
off points.
The valve assembly would be installed at a specified position within the hot-water outlet pipe of the boiler or heater unit.
A further embodiment of the invention would be to control the valve electrically within the boiler unit, using a suitable thermocouple or the like.
Claims (4)

A water control valve controlling the temperature output of hot water fitted within the outlet pipe of a boiler the housing or body of the valve having a fly' shape form, contains a "wax element" constrained in a closed position by a pre-loadcd compression spring., l he element is in direct contact with the water within chamber a'' When the water reaches a desired temperature inflecnced entirely by the pre determined melting point ot the 'wax' causing an increase in volume, Displacing the upper portion item 6, Allowing water to flow from chamber 'a' to 'b' into the outlet i pipe.
- 2. A water control valve having a 'T '(9() shape form containing a "wax element" as an alternative to the 'y' shape form in claim 1.
- 3. A water control valve having an angle ó) other than that of 45 as the 'y' shape of claim I and the 90 of claim 2.
- 4. A water control valve as in claims 1-3 and aforesaid described and detailed in figl.
