Abstract

238,567. Kahlig, J., and Grazer Waggon-und Maschinen - Fabriks- Akt.-Ges. vorm. J. Weitzer. Aug. 16, 1924, [Convention date]. Strode, varying.-A hydraulic gear comprising a pump and motor is provided with a fluid-pressure operated regulating member, the supply of operating fluid being under the control of a valve acted on by a spring and the pressure in the gear. As shown in Fig. 1, the pump 1 consists of eight cylinders and pistons, the rods of which rest on a central piece rotating on a pin which may be raised or lowered by a double piston 23 and a rod 2. If a cock 16 be in the position shown in Fig. 4, oil passes from the motor 3 through the pipe 4<1> and a valve 5 to the valve chamber 6, thence through the cock 16 and a pipe 21 to the underside of the piston 23 raising it and the axis of the pump 1, and increasing the quantity of fluid delivered by the pump 1 to the motor 3. The increasing pressure lifts the valve 8 against the spring 12, until the flow is cut off by the rise of the ports 9, and the piston 23 is held in a definite position. A further increase of the pressure causes the valve 8 to rise until the pipe 21 is opened through the port 15 to an exhaust port 14 and the piston 23 falls. In a modification, the rod 2 has a rack which rotates a cam 27, Fig. 8, and by means of a lever 28 changes the load on the spring 12.
