Abstract

237,152. Graham, T. W., and Buckley, W. H. Nov. 28, 1924. Sliding valves; cooling. - A sliding valve for controlling the passage of fluids at a high temperature and comprising a hollow water-cooled tongue 1, Figs. 3 and 4, is provided with wedgeshaped portions 4, 5, Fig. 3, coacting with corresponding parts 6, 7 on the seating-members to ensure a tight closure. The interior of the hollow valve member 1 is formed with partitions 9, Fig. 4, to cause the cooling water entering at 11 to take a definitely sinuous course through the valve to the concentric outlet 14. The valve seatings or guides are provided with a cast-in water-circulation tube 25 for cooling- water; or, alternatively, the seatings are fitted with separate water conduits 41, 43, Fig. 10. The valve is operated by a lever arrangement.
