Abstract

236,296. Fairbairn, Lawson, Combe, Barbour, Ltd., and Bee, J. R. April 8, 1924. Clutches, friction.-The spindles of spinning, doubling, twisting, and like machines, whether actuated by a belt, as shown, or by toothed gearing, are provided with a loose friction disc 8, which engages inclined surfaces 10 on a hoop 11 fixed to the spindle and is slid longitudinally of the spindle by means of a lever 12 to engage or disengage with a friction surface 6 on the driving-member 4, the surfaces 10 exerting a wedging action on the disc during driving in whichever direction the spindle rotates. The lever 12 is provided with a friction pad to serve as a brake for the disc 8 when it is raised from the driving-member.
