Abstract
235,627. Illingworth, S. R., and Illing- worth Carbonization Co., Ltd. March 17, 1924. Gravity, materials falling by; charging and feeding.-A process of drying wet coal prior to coking consists in heating a part of the coal, preferably out of contact with air, and mixing the wet part with the heated part in such proportion that the mixture contains more than 5 per cent by weight of resinic matter and preferably 3 per cent of water. In drying two coals of different resinic content the coal having the lower resinic content is heated and mixed with the coal having the higher resinic content. Apparatus for carrying out the process comprises a preheating-chamber a, a bunker d and a mixing-chamber r having oppositely inclined shelves s, outlets b, c being provided for the vapour and distilled gas generated in the preheating and mixing chambers respectively. The preheated coal is fed by propelling blades into the mixing-chamber where it meets with wet coal which is discharged from the bunker by a reciprocating-plate e. Specifications 164,104, 175,888, 186,085, and 206,542, [all in Class 55 (i), Coking &c.], are referred to.
