Abstract

A tennis mitten in the form of a muff (1) has a hole (2) at an upper end to allow insertion of a racket handle (5). The mitten preferably defines a closed space without finger portions and curves out along one side to allow easy manoeuvre of the hand (6) and racket handle. The wrist portion (3) may include elastic or velcro (RTM) and the mitten may be constructed of either acrylic, wool or nylon.

Description

The Tennis Mitten This invention is a mitten that can be used especially for holding a tennis racket for outdoor play in cold weather.

People often use gloves in the wintertime to keep their hands warm. While people play tennis, they also sometimes use gloves to keep their hands warm. But while wearing gloves, it can be difficult for the person to get a good feel and good"grip"of the racket. This is because the glove is in between the grip and the bare hand. This can often discourage people from playing tennis in cold conditions.

An object of this invention is to provide a mitten especially for playing tennis in cold conditions where the person can keep their hands warm yet maintain their grip on the racket with their bare hands, thus maintaining a good feel.

Accordingly, this invention provides a mitten that is in the shape of a hand, but with no specific shape for the fingers. There are no separate parts inside the mitten, just space. At the base of the mitten is either Velcro elastic in order to adjust for the persons'wrist size. At the top of the mitten is a large hole, about the size of a racket handle, through which the racket handle is placed. This is on the right hand side on the top of the mitten, or the left if the mitten is turned over.

Preferably the mitten is made of 100% acrylic material, but could be made from other materials if requested.

A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: FIGURE 1 shows a simple face view of the mitten FIGURE 2 shows another view of the mitten FIGURE 3 illustrates how the tennis mitten would be used FIGURE 4 shows the other side of the tennis mitten in use As shown in Figure 1, the mitten comprises of 1 the shape of a hand without the shape of fingers. You can also r.. tice that the shape 1 curves out to the left-hand side (or the right if the glove is turned over). This gives more room in the mitten for the hand to manoeuvre with the racket handle. This material is made of 100% acrylic. The design of acrylic means the mitten is stretchable and allows for more flexibility inside the glove. There is no threading for each finger inside the mitten, just space so that the user can move their hand around inside the mitten with the racket handle.

The bottom of the mitten 3 is made of Velcro or could be made of elastic in order to adjust for each person's wrist size. If the glove had Velcro at the bottom then there would be an opening 4 when the Velcro is undone.

Figure 2 shows the same view as in Figure 1. Notice that also in both of these figures that the top of the mitten on the right hand side 2 is a large hole. This is the size of a racket handle and allows the racket handle to go into the mitten so that the person can hold the racket with the warmth of the mitten as well. The mitten can be turned over and used by left handers without having to change the design of the mitten.

Figure 3 illustrates the use of the mitten by a left-hander. The person would first put the mitten on their hand and close it with the Velcro, closing it as tightly as they feel comfortable. Then they would slide the racket handle 5 through the hole 2 at the top of the mitten, which would then be held by the hand 6 inside the mitten 1. Notice how the mitten 1 is stretchable with the design of 100% acrylic. The racket handle which is held by the hand would be inside the mitten and none of the handle would come out of the mitten.

Figure 4 shows an example of the mitten being used by a right-hander 6. The racket handle 5 goes through the hole 2 at the top of the mitten and there can be elastic at the bottom of the mitten 3 instead of Velcro. Velcro would be preferred to cater for the different sizes of people's wrists.

The mitten 1 would come in three different sizes of small, medium, and large. It would also come in two or three different colours to cater for the consumers'tastes.

Claims

1. A tennis accessory, which would specifically be a tennis mitten that would be in the shape of a hand where there would be a hole the size of a racket handle at the top of the mitten that would enable the racket handle to go through the mitten once the user has already put the mitten on.

2. A tennis mitten as claimed in Claim 1 where the inside of the Mitten would not be threaded for each individual finger but there would just be an open space to allow more room for the hand to move with the racket handle.

3. A tennis mitten as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 and would also curve out to the left (or the right if turned over) in order to give room for the hand to manoeuvre with the racket handle inside the mitten.

4. A tennis mitten as claimed in Claim 3 where the bottom of the Mitten would either be a Velcro where the user can undo the mitten by undoing the Velcro or by elastic material, both of these options would be available.

5. A tennis mitten as claimed in any preceding claim which is made from acrylic, wool, or nylon.

6. A tennis mitten substantially as herein described and Illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
