Abstract

234,358. Holdsworth, G. Oct. 13, 1924. Addition to 213,511. Door chains and the like.-In a door lock of the kind set out in the parent Specification where an ajar hook is pivoted to the striking-plate and is adapted to engage a notch below and opening into, the hole in the front plate of the casing for the protrusion of the bolt, and is retained therein by shooting the bolt ever the ajar hook, the bolt of the lock is adapted to be withdrawn some distance within the casing beyond the front plate when in the inoperative position, so that the ajar hook can engage the slot, and the slot is tapered so that when the ajar hook is engaged thereon and retained by the bolt, the wedging action eliminates rattling. The bolt a, which may he a latch bolt as shown in Fig. 1, or a lock bolt as shown in Fig. 6, when fully withdrawn, enters the casing so as to be well clear of the front plate c. This enables the ajar hook c to engage the taper-sided slot d opening into the bolt-hole in the plate c. When the bolt a is shot out, as shown in Fig. 6, it retains the hook against release and wedges it into the slot d so as to avoid rattling.
