Abstract

234,249. English, G. W. April 14, 1924. Milling.-A work-holder particularly for use in machining cutlery handles comprises a flat base 1 which may be moved over the surface of a worktable relatively to a stationary rotary cutter, by handles 2, 3, the base carrying a rigid lower jaw, a movable, upper jaw 5 and a laterally adjustable member 18 for regulating the projection of the work beyond the jaws. The lower jaw comprises a stepped block 14 pivoted on the base at 15 and Laving a curved edge to engage positioning pins 20 and dowels 16 for positioning a templet 13, the latter co-operating with a guide near the cutter. The lower jaw block 17 seats on the templet, is located by the pins 20 and carries a laterally adjustable work abutment 18, the parts 14, 13, 17, 18, being rigidly locked to the base when positioned, by a clamping-bolt 21. The upper jaw is operated bv a spring-pressed lever 7 actuated by a handle 10 in close proximity to the handle 3. An adjustable stop 26 may be provided to position the work axially. The work-abutting edge of the member 18 may be inclined to suit taper work and the corresponding edge. of the upper jaw may be similarly inclined. In a modification the upper jaw may be pivoted on the end of a screw spindle mounted verticallv in one of the handles of the base 1.
