Abstract

Arm 3 of the hanger is mounted between the side plates 8 of the other arm 1 to pivot downward about point 4 whereby the hanger can be easily inserted or removed from narrow-neck clothes. A latch 7 loaded by spring 9 holds the arms open and can be released by pressing the latch at A or by pushing upwards on knob 11 or 12.

hanger Existing hangers are very difficult to use with items of clothing with restricted necks such as sweaters, tee shirts etc. This is due to the size of the neck aperture being much smaller than arms width of the hanger.

Existing hangers have to be put into these items through the bottom of the article of clothing which is an awkward process. The altvc is to stretch the neck opening which is not very desirable, to accept a typical style of hanger.

According to this invention the folding hanger allows the arms of the hanger to be folded together to allow them to go into narrow necked items of clothing with ease.

After insertion the arms are unfolded to the horizontal position and automatically locked securely into place.

To remove the hanger a button is pushed or the back of the locking lever end depressed to allow the arms to fold and the hanger can be easily removed from the article of clothing.

Referring to figure Fig 1 the hanger comprises a left hand arm 1 which has two side plates 8 moIded in or added on. Between these two plates a second arm 3 pivots about pivot point 4. The arm is restrained in the open or locked position by the latch 7. This latch pivots about pivot point S.The latch is held in the locked position by the spring 9 which is secured to the latch at point 6 and to the side plate 8. A hanging hook 2 is fitted into the arm 1.

Figure 2 shows a plan view of the folding hanger To fold the hanger the latch 7 is released by pushing up on either of the knobs 11 or 12 or by depressing at point A on the latch. This wdon reles the latch from the arm 3 and allows the arin to pivot down under its own weight or with minimum manual assistance to the folded position.

To lock the arms back into the open position arm 3 is simply pivoted about point 4 and the arm automatically lifts the spring loaded latch 7 and in the fully home position the latch 7 automatically drops to hold the arm in the open position.

Figure 3 shows the hanger with the arms folded. This allows it to go into the neck of a garment.
