Abstract

Bodies.-In motor vehicles, the body sills have each a horizontal portion resting on the chassis side-members and a horizontal portion extending outwardly of said members, the outer edge of the horizontally extending portion being curved longitudinally to correspond with the shape of the body and engaging the body panels. The body sill 19, Fig. 2, is pressed from metal and formed with a shoulder 22 engaging the edge of the chassis sidemember 18, felt &c. being interposed between tha sill 19 and the member 18. A portion 21 of the sill is formed to support the floor boards 29, while the side panel 16 is secured to the sill and to a threshold member 27 for the door 14. A splash plate 26 is provided. The sill is of the straight sill type, the inner edge being straight while the outer edge is shaped to conform to the longitudinal contour of the body. In Fig. 4, the sill 42 is formed with two shoulders 37', 38 and is secured to the frame member 18 and to a Z-member 41 formed to support the floor boards 29 and to secure, together with the sill, the side panels 16. In other forms, the sill may be formed to engage the inner edge only of the chassis frame member. Fig. 6 shows a wooden sill 52 formed with a shoulder 53, the side panels 16 being secured as shown.
