Abstract

The invention relates to apparatus with a sensor 15 for detecting the actual transmission gear or the actual transmission ratio of one of a plurality of gears or transmission ratios. The sensor has co-operating first and second detectors. At least one of the first and second detectors is movable relative to the other in both a first direction and a second direction. The second direction is substantially at right angles to the first direction. One position of one of the detectors is assigned to each gear position. The detectors enable the detecting means to furnish a signal which indicates the selected gear or the position of an adjusting means relative to a gearshift mechanism. One of the detectors may comprise a cam disc with a continuous cam surface 33 which is connected with the adjusting means, or may comprise an articulated linkage.
