Abstract

231,838. Soc. du Carburateur Zenith. April 2, 1924, [Convention date]. Spray carburettors. - In carburettors having double or multiple Venturi passages, excessive cooling of these passages and a consequent deposition of ice thereon is prevented either by providing them with double walls, the space between which contains a heating medium, or bv heating the air supplied to one or more but not all of the passages. The upper end of the Venturi 1, Fig. 1, terminates slightly above the most constricted part of the Venturi' 3 and its upper part a is surrounded by a wall b to form a space 4 to which hot exhaust gases are led through a conduit 5. The gases escape into the mixture stream, and thereby raise its temperature, through the annular space 6. Fuel from a conduit 7 issues through orifices 8. The application of this method of heating to an intermediate passage in a carburettor having more than two Venturi passages is shown in Fig. 2. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, hot water from a reservoir 18 is circulated by passages 14, 15 through the space 13 between the Venturi c and the wall d. Fuel from the conduit 16 is discharged through orifices 17. In a further modification, the heating space contains an electric resistance wire. Both the hot water and the electric method of heating for double Venturi passages, are modified for multiple passages in a manner corresponding with Fig. 2. The air supply to the inner Venturi passage 1, Fig. 7, may be drawn through a pipe 27 from a space 30 surrounding the exhaust pipe 31. Fuel from a conduit 32 is discharged through orifices 33.
