Abstract

231,716. Harmatta, J. June 27, 1924. Welding.-In a continuous process of electrically welding pipes, particularly those of small diameter, the welding current is conducted in the longitudinal direction of the seam from an electrode roller arranged outside the pipe and engaging the edges of the seam, to a pair of roller electrodes acting also as pressure rollers, so as to heat only the edges to be welded. The roller electrode 6 which engages the edges of the seam is connected to one pole of the circuit and the other pole of the circuit is connected to the pressure rollers 3, 4 and also if desired to a second roller electrode 2 and a sliding contact 10. A roller electrode 9 connected to the same pole as the electrode 6 may be also used to ensure a good contact between the welding rollers and the pipe when the pipe is dirty. The distance between the electrode 6 and the electrodes 2, 3, 4 may be adjustable.
