Abstract

A leg support comprises a floor contacting member 2 and a calf support member 1 which is a sliding fit into one of several alternative mounting slots (4, Figure 2) arranged at different heights on the member 2. In use the feet are placed on member 2 and the calf rests on member 1, which may have a water- or air-inflatable pillow (5, Fig 3) on its upper surface.

Description

ADJUSTABLE LEG SUPPORT SYSTEM This invention relates to an adjustable leg support system.
The present leg support systems available in hospitals are either fixed in position horizontally or can be angled but not instantaneously.
According to the present invention there is provided an adjustable leg support system. The design is wF' shaped. The angle of support to the leg is controlled and can be irnmediately adjusted by the patient's feet. The long section is shaped to the users legs and fits the most comfortable angle for the knee (shaped to fit the call). The other part of the cross member stands on the floor and the patient adjusts the angle of the design to their own comfort. The length of either sections of the 'T' shaped design can be adjusted as the two sections are separable. The long section may be removed and placed higher or lower on the section which stands on the floor, or may be replaced with a new section of different length.
According to a further aspect of the present invention there is provided an adjustable leg support system as deccnted in the paragraph above. The long section which is shaped to the users legs is adjustable as it has an inflatable pillow on top which can be filled with liquid (water) or air, allowing the users to shape it to the exact comfort oftheir legs.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be descnbed by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows the leg support system with the two sections joined together. The leg support system is angled and rests on the floor.
Figure 2 shows the two sections separated and the design which allows the two sections to be attached at varying heights.
Figure 3 shows the horizontal section with the inflatable pillow attached to the top. The pillow may be filed with air or liquid so the user can mould the section to his/her comfort.
Referring to the drawing the leg support system Figure 1 comprises of a horizontal section 1 shaped to the users legs and a vertical section 2 which rests on. the floor. The users legs are placed on the horizontal section 1 with the feet resting against the top part of the vertical section 2. The user can adjust the angle of the support system by pushing with their feet so the vertical section 2 moves further away reducing the angle of the horizontal section 1, or vice versa.
Figure 2 shows the two sections of the leg support system separated, the horizontal section 1 has an attachment 3 which slides into a grooved reciprocal 4 on the vertical section 2. The vertical section 2 has a number of grooved reciprocals 4 at varying heights to enable the user to adjust the angle of the leg support system.
Figure 3 shows the horizontal section 2 with an inflatable pillow 5 attached to the top. This may be filled with liquid or air to enable the user to mould the horizontal section to the exact comfort of 1iis/her legs.

Claims (4)

1. An adjustable leg support system. The design is 'T' shaped. The angle of support to the leg is controlled and can be immediately adjusted by the patient's feet. The long section is shaped to the users legs and fits the most comfortable angle for the knee (shaped to fit the calf).
2. An adjustable leg support system as claimed in Claim 1. The long section which is shaped to the users legs is adjustable as it has an inflatable pillow on top which can be filled with liquid (water) or air, allowing the users to shape it to the exact comfort oftheir legs.
3. An adjustable leg support system as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 with grooves of varying heights to allow the user to adjust the angle of the support system.
4. An adjustable leg support system substantially as descibed herein with reference to Figures 1-3 ofthe accompanying drawing.
