Axial-flow type. - In turbines using steam at high pressures, above 30 atmospheres, the crosssectional areas of the guide and rotor blade passages are so dimensioned that the steam velocity in the guide passages and the relative steam velocity in the rotor blade passages vary in such a manner that, with increasing pressure, the compression shocks in the passages tend to vanish.
