Description

Container with drawers for stationery This invention relates to a container for stationery products and, particularly but not exclusively, to a boxlike container formed of card or similar material which has two drawers separated by a dividing wall.
In known constructions of such containers, the dividing wall is secured to the outer walls of the container by tabs which are glued to the outer wall. The assembly time for incorporate such dividing walls into the containers is therefore high and the cost is also considerable. It is also difficult to assemble such walls automatically by machinery.
The present invention seeks to provide a container having a dividing wall which is economical to manufacture and which is rapidly and easily insertable into the container.
According to the present invention there is provided a container including at least two compartments defined in part by a dividing wall, the dividing wall being formed of sheet dividing material having a first panel which forms said dividing wall and side panels extending from opposite side edges of the first panel, the dimensions of the side panels being such as to locate the first panel in a desired position in the container, at least one of the side panels having a tab engageable in a recess in a side wall of the container to locate the dividing wall in the container in the desired position.
The invention also provides a blank for a dividing wall adapted to divide a container into two compartments.
Preferably, the dividing wall is formed from a one piece blank comprising two panel sections hingedly connected about a centre fold line about which the panels are foldable to be juxtaposed to one another to form said first panel, each panel section having side panels extending therefrom, the side panels from one section being bent in one direction to form a locating wall to locate the dividing wall a predetermined distance from a first wall of the container, and the side panels of the other panel section certain to locate the dividing wall relative to a second, opposite, wall of the container.
A preferred embodiment of the present invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows a perspective view of the container having two drawers, one of the drawers being partially open, Figure 2 shows a perspective view of the container with the drawers and a dividing wall removed, Figure 3 shows a front view of the container showing the dividing wall, and Figure 4 shows a blank from which the dividing wall is constructed.
Referring now to figure 1 there is shown a box-like container 1 having an upper drawer 2 and a lower drawer 3 separated by a dividing wall 4. The container 1 and the two drawers are formed of a thin cardboard or similar material.
The side walls 5 of the container 1 are formed of two thicknesses of material. Referring now to figure 2, the container 1 is shown without the drawers 2, 3 and dividing wall 4 and it can be seen that on the interior of each of the walls 5 a rectangular recess 6 is provided in the region of the centre of the wall by cutting a hole in the inner sheet of card. Although it cannot be seen, a corresponding recess is provided in the other wall 5.
Referring now to figure 3 there is shown more details of the dividing wall. The dividing wall 4 is formed from a one-piece blank of thin card material, as shown in figure 4.
The dividing wall 4 consists of a first panel of the blank which, when installed, has upstanding walls 7 and depending walls 8 which engage with the upper and lower walls 9 and 10 respectively of the container 1 to thereby firmly locate dividing wall 4 in position.
Referring now to figure 4 which shows the blank of the dividing wall illustrated in figures 1 to 3, it can be seen that the blank consists of two panel sections 11 and 12 hingedly connected around a fold line 13. The panel section 11 has two side panels 12 extending from opposite side edges of the panel section 11 and being hingedly connected thereto by means of fold lines 14.
The panel section 12 has corresponding side panels 7 hingedly connected by fold lines 15 to the opposite side edges thereof. Each of the side panels 7 has a tongue or tab 16 separated therefrom by a cut line 17 to form a tab in the form of a quarter circle. The tabs 16 are connected to the part panel 12 through the fold line 15.
In order to assemble the dividing wall, the panel sections 11, 12 are folded over onto each other so that they are juxtaposed. The side panels 8 are folded downwardly to lie generally perpendicular to the plane of the panel sections 11 and 12 and the side panels 7 are folded upwardly. The dividing wall thus constructed is slid into the container 1 until the tabs 16 engage in the recesses 6.
The fold line 13 thus becomes the leading edge of the dividing wall 4 and the dividing wall is firmly located in the position illustrated in figure 3.
