Description

CHILD SAFETY BELT SECURER MKII This invention relates to preventing young children releasing themselves from their safety belts.
This common problem faced by parents etc. when vehicles are in transit, can cause great panic and accidents. The new CHILD SAFETY BELT SECURER MKII (CSBS) would prevent this, giving less worry to drivers and more safety on our roads.
A specific embodiment of the invention is described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings.
FIG 1 Illustrates a CSBS MK II drawn in perspective.
FIG 2 Shows the 2 important dimensions for the CSBS MK II (side view) (1) Dimension large enough for an adults finger, but too small for a child's hand (35mm approx).
(2) Dimension short enough for an adults finger, but too long for a child's finger (45mm approx).
FIG 3 Shows methods of fastening the CSBS MK II to child seat belt buckles.
X Represents the release button Slide buckle in direction of o allowing the CSBS MK II to clip in position as shown by the sectioned drawing.
B Slide buckle in direction of + and fasten the CSBS MK II to the buckle using grub screws as shown by the sectioned drawing.
FIG 4 Illustrates the front view of a CSBS MK II, with 2 shoulder straps and buckle step clipped together, correctly positioned on a child seat belt buckle.

Claims (12)

  1. The CSBS MKII comprises of a domed component longer than a childs finger with a through hole.
  2. 2. The diameter of the through hole in CLAIM 1 should be smaller in diameter than that of a small childs hand.
  3. 3. Using a CSBS MKII with the approximate dimensions given in CLAIMS 1 and 2 the "PUSH" button on a child seat belt buckle would be visible and accessable only to someone of sufficient age.
  4. 4. The CSBS MKII can be manufactured in rubber, plastic and metal.
  5. 5. The CSBS MKII can be designed and manufactured enabling it to be screwed or clipped to buckles of all sizes as shown in FIG 3 and FIG 4.
Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows CHILD SAFETY BELT SECURER MKII CLAIMS (additional)
  6. 6. The through hole in the CSBS MKII is positioned wherever necessary to give clear vision and access to the "PUSH" release button on the seat belt buckle.
  7. 7. The "DOMED" outline of the CSBS MKII can be manufactured in any suitable material or shape, providing the design matches the dimensions given in FIG 2.
  8. 8. The CSBS MKII can be manufactured in a transparent material which gives a clear vision of the "PUSH" release button.
  9. 9. The CSBS MKII can be moulded to the mechanism of all seat belt buckles.
The result, a new seat belt buckle the same shape as the CSBS MKII.
  10. 10. The CSBS MKII can be manufactured in two parts. Part one, as shown in FIG.5 can be designed to clip to seat belt buckles of all shapes and sizes. Part one can also be moulded to the mechanism of all seat belt buckles.
Part two, which comprises of the details given in claims 1 and 2, can be secured to Part one temporarily or permanently.
Securing Part two to Part one temporarily allows, for example, the parent to remove Part two completely once the child handles the "PUSH" release button in an adult fashion.
Part two can be secured to Part one in any of the following ways:- RECESS FITTING TAPERED FITTING BAYONET FITTING PINNED SCREW FITTING GLUED INTERFERENCE FIT
  11. 11. The CSBS MKII can be shaped as shown in FIG.6. Manufactured this way, in a suitable soft material the CSBS MKII would protect the childs head from contacting the seat belt buckle.
  12. 12. The CSBS MKII can be manufactured with side slots designed to allow the shoulder strap clips to overlap the buckle. This would help prevent the CSBS MKII being removed once the shoulder straps are engaged in the buckle.
