Abstract

229,543. Swift, H. B. May 31, 1924. India-rubber and like springs.- A suspension device or shock-absorber for a vehicle comprises a housing formed of channel members capable of limited relative movement having between them a number of separate blown or cellular rubber bodies preferably balls or rollers. The housing comprises two channel-section members A, A<1> of which A<1> is secured to or made integral with the frame or chassis B of the vehicle. The member A can slide over the member A<1>, its motion being limited by a U-shaped member C attached to the upper member A and having a buffer pad D between its lower limb and the upper flange of the chassis frame B. The balls or rollers E are of known construction and consist of rubber blown or made spongy so as to contain a large number of air spaces enclosed within an outer portion without spaces or perforations.
