Abstract
197,146. Varley, M. J. March 27, 1922. Spring shackles.-A shock-absorber or elastic suspension device for perambulators, side-cars, and other road vehicles comprises two parallel or substantially parallel plates a united by two parallel links b of open rectangular form which take bearings in looped parts a<2>, a<4> of the plates, additional looped parts a<3> being provided in the plates for the attachment to the parts to be connected and a helical spring c being secured between the looped parts a<2>. The spring c may have its ends curved around the parts of the links b within the looped parts a<2> which are slotted at a<5> for this purpose. When the device is extended, the spring is compressed, and the spring also acts in tension to absorb rebound. One of the looped parts a<3> may engage a rod &c. and the other a shackle d to which a strap is connected, or two shackles d may be employed. The body of the perambulator &c. may be provided with a rubber buffer to prevent direct contact of the device with the bodv. The device when made of stout construction may be used as a shackle between the dumb irons and laminated springs of motor vehicles.
