229,175. Earnshaw, H. P. J. June 30, 1924. Lighting, systems of. - In a motor car having the usual front and rear fenders and the usual front headlights 2, Fig. 1, a projector lamp 3 is mounted, preferably adjustably, on the rear fender 4 on the side nearest the edge of the road so as to throw a beam of light from behind the driver and across the front fender, thereby producing a brightly illuminated area in front of and directly outside the line of travel of the car, the lamp being arranged relatively to the car body in such a manner that no direct rays from the lamp are visible to a person directly in front of the car. The lamp employed is preferably one adapted to throw a strong light beam of little divergence for illuminating an area 20 and a secondary beam of greater divergence.
