Abstract

228,437. Kuntz, W. J. July 7, 1924. Rotary containers.-A rotary drier consists of concentric drums 1, 2 connected together and supported by tyres 3 resting on rollers 4. The outer drum 2 has a ring wheel 6 driven by the motor 8. The furnace flue 10 passes through the feed-head 9 into the drum 2 and terminates near the end of the drum 1. The end of the flue is enclosed by a cylindrical baffle 15 supported in a flange 16 on the drum 1, and the baffle passes through the centre of the feed-head 9, the side plates 17, 18, of which are extended upwards for connection to the inlet tube 23 of the fan 24. An inclined feed shoot 26 passes through the side plate 17 and the annular space in the feed head to an opening in the plate 18, and a door 28 may be provided to control the flow of material. To seal the opening between the drum 2 and the end plate 18 of the feed-head, the drum carries a ring 34 with an inward radial flange 35 which enters the space between two discs 30 fitting tightly upon the flange 29 of a ring secured to the end plate 18. The discs 30 are spaced apart by washers 32 and are secured by nuts 33. The opening 36 in the plate 18 establishes communication between the drum 2 and the feed-head 9. The fan causes the heated gases from the furnace to pass through the complete length of the drum 1 and through the drum 2 to the pipe 23.
