Abstract

228,300. Sinks (1920), Ltd., C., Binks, H., and Binks, C. L. Dec. 1, 1923. Spray carburettors. - In a multiple jet carburettor having a straight through air passage controlled by a transversely sliding piston B, the pilot nozzles C, D are closed by dampers c<1>, d<1> carried by the piston, the main nozzle or nozzles E extend into the air intake A<1> considerably above the fuel level, and the larger part of the air supply to the pilot nozzles enters through regulatable ports G. The piston B is provided with a transverse passage b<3> having inlet ports b<1>, b<3>, b<4>, and with a second transverse passage b communicating with the passage b<2> by ports b<6>. When the piston is in its lowest position, the air intake A<1> and ports G are both closed; when the piston is raised to the position shown, the first pilot nozzle C is uncovered, the spring d<2> maintaining the damper d' on the nozzle D, and air from the ports G passes through the holes b<1>, b<3>, b<6> and over the nozzle C; when raised further, the nozzle D is uncovered, the passage b<2> is opened to the air intake A<1>, and air from both the ports G and intake A<1> passes over the nozzles G,D; when the passage b is about three quarters open, the suction through the intake A<1> causes fuel to dribble from the main nozzle E, and as the piston is still further raised, the fuel flow from the main nozzle E increases whilst that from the pilot nozzles decreases. Specifications 12690/13 and 109,076 are referred to.
