Abstract
A ring-spinning machine having one or more jets (14) for spraying pressurised oil onto the spinning rings (18) has also, in close proximity to the spinning rings (18), extraction apparatus in the form of a suction tube (20) for removing oil-entrained air in the region of the rings (18). The jet and suction tube may be mounted on a reciprocating carriage (12) together with a water spraying nozzle (22) for cleaning plates (24). The extracted oil may be filtered and may be recirculated through the jet (14). <IMAGE>
Description
Extraction Apparatus This invention relates to extraction apparatus for use with ring-spinning and twisting machines on which the yarn is wound onto bobbins by travellers which are mounted on spinning rings for rotation around the bobbins. The rings are lubricated in order to reduce the friction between the ring and the relatively rotating traveller. In some cases, the lubricant is sprayed directly onto the spinning rings by an oil-jet nozzle or nozzles directed at the rings.
There may be a nozzle for each ring or, for example, a single nozzle may be mounted on a carriage for reciprocation along a plurality of rings, e.g. a row, so as to lubricate each ring as it passes it. Depending on the frequency, pressure and fineness of the jet, a certain amount of the oil may become entrained in the surrounding air at each machine and spread throughout the air in the spinning room. Normally, the spinning rooms are provided with extractor fans for removing impurities from the air but, for a higher frequency of the oiling cycle, e.g. 8 minute cycles, larger, more powerful, extractor fans have been used with corresponding increases in installation and running costs.Further, it will be appreciated that not all the oil will remain in the ambient air until it reaches the extractor fan and good housekeeping programmes of realistic frequency must be set up in order to maintain the spinning room and its contents from being unacceptably contaminated with oil, which further adds to the running costs.
It is an object of the present invention to obviate or mitigate the above described disadvantage.
According to the present invention, a ring-spinning machine having one or more jets for spraying pressurised oil onto the spinning rings has also, in close proximity to the spinning rings, extraction apparatus for removing oilentrained air in the region of the rings.
The present invention is advantageous because it operates on the basis that, instead of removing large volumes of oil-entrained air at high cost, it removes small volumes of oil-entrained air at high speed because as the oil mist is created from the nozzle, the suction removes it before it spreads throughout the respective room.
The extraction apparatus is usually associated with a pump or other means to create a suction. It may comprise a number of suction tubes (or vents) extending along the or a part of the machine adjacent to the spinning rings and reasonably close to the oil jet or jets so as to suck up the oil-laden air resulting from the oil which has not been deposited on the spinning rings or which may have been deflected from or thrown off the rings by the rotation of the travellers. However, preferably the or each oil jet is mounted on a carriage which is reciprocated along the or a length of the machine so as to oil each spinning ring as the carriage passes it and the or each suction tube is also mounted on the carriage so as to move with the jet nozzle(s) without interfering with the jet(s) or the rotation of the travellers.Also, preferably, the suction duct(s) include a filter leading to a container which filters and collects the oil which, if desired, may be recirculated to the container for the oil associated with the jet(s). The suction apparatus may be of the conventional fan-induced type or, for example, it may be an air mover operating on a transvector air flow amplifier system using a small flow of compressed air as a source of power.
The present invention will now be described, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a plan view illustrating a short length of the ring rail of a ring-spinning machine along with the arm of a travelling oiler/washer carriage and an extraction apparatus, in accordance with the present invention; and
Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional side elevation on the line II-II of Fig. 1.
The drawings show a wet-ring-spinning machine represented by a ring rail 10, spindle assemblies 11, a pirn 15, and draw rollers 13 having a carriage 12 tracking an overhead rail (not shown). There may be two such carriages at each side of the machine, each traversing half-way along the machine. The carriage 12 has, mounted thereon, an oil-jet nozzle 14 to spray oil sequentially on the spinning rings 18 which are mounted on the ring rails 10 which extend lengthwise of the machine. The carriage 12 has also mounted in the vicinity of the nozzle 14, and preferably a short distance behind it as viewed in the direction 'A' that the carriage is travelling when spraying pressurised oil onto the rings, a suction tube 20 which may be fan or trumpet-shaped at its intake end.The tube 20 draws in oil-entrained air in the vicinity of the spinning rings before it drifts into the atmosphere in the room.
The intake end of the suction tube 20 is advantageously located close to the traveller rings but not so as to interfere with the rotation of the traveller; it may extend both above and below the level of the rings and may be adjustable to provide best results. It communicates with a collection chamber (not shown) and the oil is collected in the chamber for easy disposal or re-use or may be fed through a pipe circuit (not shown) for recirculation to the oil container feeding the nozzle 14. A filter may be provided for removing impurities in the oil picked up from the room atmosphere.
In use, the carriage moves from an end of the machine towards the centre spraying water from another nozzle 22 onto the thread plates 24 so as to clean them and prevent the thread guide eyes becoming blocked. Then, on travelling back towards the end of the frame, the oil nozzle is activated so as to spray oil onto the traveller rings. It is during this time that the suction nozzles are also activated so as to collect the unused air-laden-oil, to prevent it rising into the general atmosphere, or as it falls towards the lower regions of the machine and floor.
The nozzle and suction tube may be adjusted to accommodate the direction of travel of the carriage and rotation of the spindles.
Claims (6)
1. A ring-spinning machine having one or more jets for spraying pressurised oil onto the spinning rings has also, in close proximity to the spinning rings, extraction apparatus for removing oil-entrained air in the region of the rings.
2. A machine according to claim 1, which additionally comprises a suction pump in association with the extraction apparatus.
3. A machine according to claim 1 or claim 2, wherein the extraction apparatus comprises an oil filter.
4. A machine according to any preceding claim, which comprises reciprocatable along the machine, a carriage on which the or each oil jet is mounted.
5. A machine according to claim 4, wherein the carriage is mounted immediately below the or each oil jet.
6. A ring-spinning machine substantially as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
