Abstract
A set of Lawn Edging Shears (Figure 1) has a Grass Clipping Catcher 10 which is attached to the lower blade 15. This captures grass clippings as they are cut by the blades and retains them for easy disposal. The catcher 10 may be shaped to follow the profile of the lower blade and may be attached to the blade by brackets 12, 13 and by the use of screws, bolts or rivets. Alternatively the catcher may be welded to the lower blade or be manufactured integrally with the blade. The unit can be fashioned to suit either right or left handed people. <IMAGE>
Description
(1A;.EL A)
GROSS CLTFI-INGS CATCHER FOP LAWIT EDGISTG SHEARS This invention relates to Lawn Edging Shears (or Trimmers).
Lawn Edging Shears (tJr Trimmers) are in common use in gardens and parks to make tidy the edge of lawns as they abut flower beds or paths or other boundaries. When using the conventional type of Edging Shears, the grass clippings fall untidily onto the soil of the plot and it is an arduous task to completely remove them.
According to the present invention a catcher is attached to the bottom blade of the Edging Shears. On to this the grass clippings fall as the are cut. They gather and periodically they may be collected and emptied into a suitable bin or the lawn mower grass box for disposal.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described and reference is made to the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 shows a general view of the Edging Shears with the catcher attached.
Figure 2 is a detail of the blades showing the catcher more closely.
Figure 3 is an end-elevation showing the catcher fixings.
Figure 4 shows the shape of the catcher, rounded to follow the profile of the bottom edge of the lower blade.
(PANEL B)
Referring to the drawing the Catcher 10 is made from sheet metal and is of suitable width to catch the grass clippings as they fall. It is bet (or formed) to match the lower profile of the bottom Edging Shear blade 15. This form ensures the retention of the clippings.
The drag in Figure 4 shows the Catcher attached to the lower Edging Shear blade by brackets 12 and 13 which are either bolted or rivetted to retain it in place. Alternatively the Catcher may be welded to the blade 15 or even formed as part of the blade during the forgeing process.
The action is quite simple in that the upper blade 14 shears the grass stems and the severed ends fall on to the Catcher 10 to be retained for disposal at intervals.
Claims (4)
- (PA@@EL C)CLAIMS The Grass Clippings Catcher for Lawn Edging Shears (or Trimmers) arrests the grass clippings as they are cut and prevents them dropping on to the soil of the adjacent flower beds. Tt promotes a much tidier finish to the operation and resolves the subsequent arduous task of manually collecting and removing the clippings. It also reduces the growth of grass in flower beds resutffing from uncollected clippings containing seed.(PANEL C) Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows 1. The Grass Clippings Catcher which comprises a formed sheet-metal plate with securing brackets, so designed that it may be attached to the lower blade of conventional lawn Edge Trimming Shears.
- 2. The Grass Clipping Catcher as claimed in Claim 1. is attached to the lower Lawn Edge Trimming Blade by either through bolts, set screws or rivets between blade and securing bracket.Alternatively, consideration may be given to welding the Grass Clippings Catcher along its edge, to the lower side of the bottom blade of the Lawn Edge Trimmer.
- 3. Additionally, it could be possible during manufacture, to incorporate the Grass Clippings Catcher as an integral part of the lower lawn Edge Trimmer blade forgeing.
- 4. A Grass Clippings Catcher described herein, is for use with Lawn Edge Trimming Shears with reference to Figures 1 - 4 of the accompanying drawing.
