Abstract
A grass storing box 10 has a grass collecting tray 11 and is fitted with a bracket 12 so that when fixed to a pair of lawn shears 13 it will collect the cut grass in the box and tray. The bracket is attached to the shears by means of clips 14 fitted with threaded studs which fit into holes drilled into the bracket, the bracket being secured to the studs by nuts 15. The box with its tray extension and bracket can be revolved backwards through 180 degrees and fitted in an upside down position when the shears are used without the box. The bolt 16 that holds two shear blades together can enter a hole 17 in the left hand side of the box so that the box lays flat against the shear blades. <IMAGE>
Description
This invention relates to a device for collecting lawn shear grass clippings.
Lawn shears are a well known tool which comprises two shear blades bolted together and attached at right angles to a long pair of handles. The shear blades are set against each other with the cutting surfaces flush to each other. The shears are used to trim overhanging grass from the edges of lawns.
The lawn shears have no means of collecting the grass clipping they create, thus time and effort are expended in retrieving the clippings after the shears have been used.
The present invention consists of a devise comprising a grass storing box which extends at the front to form a grass collecting tray. The box and tray are secured to the shears by a bracket which is attached by two clips fitted with threaded studs and nuts to the front shear handle. The invention is fitted in such a way that when firmly secured to the shears, the storing box and it's collecting tray lie flush against the shear blades with the collecting tray resting against the bottom of the lower shear blade. When the shear blades cut grass, the grass falls into the tray and when the tray is full the operator can push the grass into the storing box. Two holes are provided on the bottom of the grass storing box, the securing bracket is bolted to the storing box through these holes. The fixing arm of the bracket is drilled with three fixing holes, the uppermost and lower of which are open and slotted. When fitted in the operating position the centre hole and the upper open slotted hole fit over the two studs on the shear handles. If the operator wishes to use the shears without the devise in the operating position, for instances to cut difficult corners and where space is restricted, the invention can be revolved backwards through 180 degrees and bolted upside down to the front shear handle by locating the lower open slotted hole, which would then be in the upper position, into the stud of the upper bracket retaining clip.
There is a hole in the centre of the left hand side of the storing box this hole is provided so that when the invention is fitted in the operating position the nut that holds the two blades of the shears together will enter the hole and thus allow the invention to lie flat against the shear blades.
The front half of the grass storing box is open at the top and the sides are angled downwards until they meet the rear of the collecting tray. This feature is provided so that the operator can put his/her fingers into the storing box from the front and reach the rear of the grass storing box in order to compact the collected grass or when necessary remove the compacted grass from the rear of the grass storing box.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which
Figure 1 Shows in perspective a pair of grass edging shears with the invention fitted to them being used on a typical lawn edge.
Figure 2 illustrates the elevation view.
Figure 3 Shows the plane view.
Figure 4 Shows the rear view
Referring to the drawings the Lawn Shear Grass Collector comprises a box 10 extending at the front to form a tray 11 and fitted with a bracket 12 which can be attached to a pair of lawn edging shears by means of two clips 14 fitted with threaded studs and nuts 15. When the invention is fitted to the lawn shears the nut 16 holding the lawn shear blades together enters the hole 17 in the left hand side of the invention allowing the left side to lay
flush against the shear blades 13. When the shears cut grass the grass falls
into the collecting tray and can be compacted in the storing box.
Claims (5)
1 A grass collecting box extending at the front to form a grass collecting tray and fitted with a bracket so that it can be fixed to a pair of lawn shears in such a way that it will collect the grass clippings created when the shears are in use.
2 A grass collecting box as claimed in claim 1 wherein a hole is provided in the left hand side so that the nut which holds two shear blades together can enter the hole enabling the box and it's tray extension to lay flat against the shear blades.
3 A grass collecting box as claimed in claims 1 or 2 wherein the bracket is suitable drilled with holes to enable it to be attached to the grass collecting box and to the shears allowing it to be rotated through 180 degrees in order to be attached in an upside down position on the shears when it is not in use.
4 A grass collecting box as claimed in any preceding claim wherein clips fitted with threaded studs and nuts are provided so that the bracket can be securely attached to the lawn shears and two nuts and bolts provided so that the bracket can be secured to the collecting box.
5 A grass collecting box substantially described herein with reference to
Figures 1-17 of the accompanying drawings.
