Heels, machines for.-Relates to heel attaching machines of the kind described in Specifications 100,111 and 186,126 provided with a work support, a heel tread abutment and an abutment to engage the rear contour of the heel; and consists in a rear abutment which is moved into engagement in consequence of the approach of the work support and the tread abutment, but in a path transverse to that movement of approach. and which, when in position, resists rearward movement of the heel by direct bracing against the machine column or the like. As shown, the rear abutment 35 is pivoted to a bracket 19 adjustable along a link 21 pivoted to the machine column. The bracket is supported by a link 15 screw threaded into a block carried by lugs 13 in the usual vertically moving member carrying the heel tread abutment 11. Slots 25 with enlarged circular ends normally engaging slidable sleeves carried by the block facilitate rapid removal of the rear abutment when this is not required. The tread abutment 11 is mounted on straight and curved adjusting slides controlled by thumb nuts 16, 17. Tn a modification, the rear abutment is rigidly mounted at the end of an arm pivoted to the column, is depressed against the action of a spring by a stop plate moving with the tread abutment.
