Abstract

175,099. Pochin, F. H., and Pochin, H. S. Nov. 22, 1920. Stamping; stopping and starting arrangements. -Relates to power-driven machines for stamping marks on boot soles &c., and comprises a parallel-link arrangement for supporting the revoluble die-carriers, and an improved tripping- device for starting and stopping the machine. As shown in Fig. 1, the support 4 for one or more die-carriers 5 is mounted on parallel links 3 and is suspended on the bolt 90 carried by a crosshead 9 which is mounted on rocking links 10, a strong adjustable spring 12 being disposed between the cross-head and support. The arrangement enables the support to yield slightly during impression, and permits adjustment of the support without canting the faces of the dies 6. The work is placed on a table 7, which is raised by a lever 13 operated by a cam 16 on the driving- shaft 18 and a spring 15, a hit-and-miss device, controlled by the work, being arranged between the lever and the guide-stem 8 of the table. The device consists of a pin 21 formed on a block 23, which is pivoted in the stem, a spring 25 normally holding the pin in register with a recess 22 in the lever. The block is connected to a slide 20 which is mounted in a rocking support 19 and carries a trip 33 engaging a lever 29 coupled to a slide 26, which is pushed backwards by the work, the pin 21 being thereupon engaged by the lever and the table being raised. In rising, the table rocks the slide 20 and releases the trip from the lever, the spring 25 thereupon rocking the pin 21 to prevent repeated impression. On withdrawal of the work, a spring 32 returns the slide 26, and the lever 29 re-engages the trip. The trip can slide on a part 33a having a pin 34 entering a slot in the block 35. A spring 36 projects the trip when released, and a blade spring 44 permits the trip to yield when re-engaging the lever 29. The slide 26 is adjustably connected to the lever 29 by a catch 31. To prevent accidental operation of the machine, the front end of the lever 1 3 can be raised by a cam 38, the roller 14 on the lever being thereby depressed below the cam 16, and the table being raised to the highest position. According to the Provisional Specification, the slide 20 interposes a member between the table and the lever 13.
